Dr. Usui started a Reiki organization in Japan soon after discovering Reiki. He was the first president. The clearest and most authentic understanding we have been able to discover is that Dr. Usui originated the system of healing he taught and practiced based first on his mystical experience on Mt. Kurama and then later by making use of his studies in many different areas of knowledge. During his mystical experience on Mt. Kurama, Dr. Usui received the ability to do Reiki treatments. Later he added the Reiki Ideals, the three Reiki II symbols, hand positions and the attunement process.
There has been a lot of speculation about where Reiki came from, but there has been little confirmation of most of these ideas. After coming to the west, the Usui System of Natural Healing has evolved over time. In its current state, it is much more organized and structured than the simple, flexible, intuitive method practiced by Dr. Usui.

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese loanword and is pronounced ray-key. “rei” meaning spirit, soul and divine, “ki” (also "Qi" or "Chi") meaning energy, and life force. Reiki is an energy healing method which uses sacred symbols to help direct the energy and healing to where it is needed. Reiki is beyond Religion, it is the healing of the mind, body and spirit.

Why do Reiki?
Reiki is self-guiding. It will go where it is needed most. The practitioner can set it in motion and literally let their mind drift off while the session is occurring. It does not require the practitioner to direct the energy; the client’s body uses the energy to heal itself.
Reiki can also be done from a distance for a client if requested.
People have used these techniques to aid in healing past traumas.
You do not need to be educated in anatomy and assessments to give a Reiki treatment. Reiki is relatively simple to learn and use, and thus it becomes a useful tool for people of all levels of intellect and skill.
Reiki and Chakra Balancing & Crystal healing
The Chakra system is the balance mechanism for the psychological and emotional aspects. The Chakra system functions as a unit. The flow of energies between the chakras should be balanced.
Crystals seem to work primarily on the subtle energy bodies. There are many ways that crystals may be used with Reiki to promote further healing. Crystals can be charged with a healing thought form which is sent out over a distance by holding the crystal and visualizing the energy being receiving by the healee. As crystals operate at the level of magneto electric frequencies (subtle energy levels), the mind-directed energies of the sender are amplified and simultaneously transmitted from a distance to the healee.
